There are 2 types of messages in WhatsApp Business API, Template message and Transactional messages.
is a pre-approved message template for outbound notifications like delivery alerts and appointment reminders. You must use a Template Message to reach a user if more than 24 hours have elapsed since they last responded to you as by then the session will be automatically closed by WhatsApp and any further normal messages will not be delivered. Template messages cannot be used for marketing.
Template Message is a message format for common reusable messages you may want to send. This allows you to send just the template identifier along with the appropriate parameters instead of the full message content. They are designed to reduce the likelihood of spam to users on WhatsApp.
These are any messages sent and received in response to a user-initiated message to your account. A messaging session starts when a user sends your application a message, and lasts for 24 hours from the most recently received message. there are two types: MT (Mobile terminated) is the message you send to your customer and MO (Mobile Originated) is the message you receive from your customer.
Transactional messages include free-form text, images, documents, audio, video and contact types of messages.
Cut-off control prevents messages from being delivered to users out of certain conditions. Here's a summary of the requirements:
- Regular text messages or media messages (i.e. any Non-Template Messages) can only be delivered during the 24 hours after the last time a customer sent a message to the business.
- Template Messages do not have this restriction and should be the preferred way of reaching a customer.
Please Note that New templates need to be approved by WhatsApp. Your account manager will submit the templates for approval and let you know once they are approved. This process takes 24-72 hours to be completed.
